London isn’t the only stage for honors

As the world takes the stage in London for the 2012 Summer Olympics, Natchez and Vidalia have been busy with some fun of their own this summer.
Let’s review some of the great news and events that took place in our community last week.
•Hundreds of people enjoyed the annual Natchez Food and Wine Festival, and we are sure their stomachs did, too. This summer festival attracts food lovers from all around, and we hope everyone got their fill.
•Adams County Christian School is expanding its education horizons this fall with a new course on film, photography and media. High schools must do a better job of offering students courses that directly translate into jobs, not just academic areas of study. It’s exciting to see ACCS realize this.
•Generators at Natchez’s three Red Cross emergency shelters are installed and ready if needed. It’s reassuring to know power is available if things get tough.
• Passersby donated more than $3,000 to the Vidalia Feed the Hungry program Friday during a roadblock in Vidalia. Though we don’t love the idea of roadblocks, we are happy the area gave so freely to such a great cause.
•Friends and family gathered Saturday at the annual Minorville Jubilee for fun, food and fellowship. We aren’t sure how they brave the heat — other than the kids who enjoyed a spraying from the Natchez Fire Department — but we are glad this neighborhood still takes time to come together.
As summer rolls to a close soon, the games will continue — in London and in the Miss-Lou.
