Natchez High’s boys and girls track teams defeated West Feliciana High School during the 2001 Natchez Invitational Meet Tuesday at the Natchez High track.
The meet was scheduled to have three teams, but Jackson (La.) High School had to pull out due to transportation problems.
Natchez’s boys team edged out West Feliciana by one point, 64 to 63.
The final results came down to the final event of the evening – the high jump.
West Feliciana’s Roderick Coates won the event to earn five points, but Natchez’s Kendrick Gibbons was second and Jimmy Bacon was third to give Natchez four points, just enough for first place overall.
Clint Johnson was huge for the Natchez boys, winning three events – the 3200-meter run, the 1600-meter run and the 800-meter run – to account for 15 of the team’s points.
Natchez’s girls teams had no problem in defeating West Feliciana 68 to 45.
