VIDALIA — A roadblock in Vidalia to benefit Feed the Hungry Friday managed to raise $3,299 through donations by those traveling Carter Street.
Director Linda Bonnette said the organization usually has a roadblock on the last Friday before Christmas.
But with budget cuts trickling down to non-profit organizations, Bonnette said she’s had trouble getting the same amount of food than in recent years.
“We just haven’t been able to get our hands on any food this year,” Bonnette said. “We’ve been writing letters to congress to try and get some more funding.”
Bonnette said Mayor Hyram Copeland approached her about having the roadblock on Friday, and she graciously agreed.
Volunteers stood in the intersection of Carter and Cross streets from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to gather donations from drivers.
