Softball roundups: ACCS tops WCCA 14-0, Trinity loses

WOODVILLE — Taylor Perkins, Brooke Runnels and Ashleigh Williams combined to pitch a no-hitter as the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels defeated the Wilkinson County Christian Academy Lady Rams 14-0 Friday afternoon in five innings.
Perkins got the win, striking out two and walking none in the first two innings. Both Runnels, who pitched the next two innings, and Williams, who pitched the final inning, managed to keep WCCA off the scoreboard even though each of them walked three batters. Runnels struck out one batter while Williams fanned two batters.
Jessica Reynolds led the Lady Rebels’ 19-hit attack by going 4-for-5, while Williams was 2-for-3, including a three-run home run during a seven-run scoring spree in the top of the third inning that put the game away.
ACCS (1-0) will play three games today at the Centreville Academy Softball Tournament. The Lady Rebels’ first opponent is host Centreville Academy at 9 a.m. After that, it’s Franklin Academy at noon and MAIS District 5-AA rival Trinity Episcopal at 1:30 p.m.
Central Private 8, Trinity Episcopal 0
BAKER, La. — Trinity Episcopal found itself on the wrong end of a shutout loss Friday afternoon against the Central Private School Lady Rebels.
Both teams had just five hits, but Central Private was able to take advantage of five Trinity Episcopal errors. The Lady Rebels scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning and five more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Kailey Hutchins was charged with the loss, as she went four-plus innings, striking out two and walking three. Winning pitcher Alex Stuckey went all five innings and struck out six while walking none.
Trinity Episcopal (0-1) will play two games today at the Centreville Academy Softball Tournament. First, the Lady Saints will go up against Franklin Academy at 10:30 a.m., then take on ACCS at 1:30 p.m.
