NATCHEZ — Services for Lula Brown Shepherd, 76, of Sibley, who died Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Lloyd Bailey officiating.
Burial will follow at Kilma-Nox No. 2 Cemetery under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today only at the funeral home.
Mrs. Shepherd was born Jan. 12, 1936, in Adams County, the daughter of Johnnie Brown Sr. and Mary Ross Brown. She attended Robinson Bayou-Mercy Seat School.
Mrs. Shepherd was a homemaker and a member of the African Methodist Episcopal church and served as a Stewardess, president of the Usher Board, treasurer of the Missionary Society and a devoted Sunday school attendee.
Mrs. Shepherd was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Shepherd Jr.; her parents; and four siblings, Laura Sanders, Johnnie Brown, Miller Brown and Carl Lee Brown.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Lou Shepherd of Natchez; one son, Willie James Shepherd and wife, Yolanda D., of Sibley; three grandchildren, Prennell D. Shepherd, Quankeia C. Shepherd and Danesha B. Shepherd, all of Sibley; two great-grandchildren, Prennae D. Shepherd of Dallas and DaZyrien J. Jackson of Sibley; one sister, Mildred B. Ealey and husband, Edward, of Natchez; six brothers, the Rev. James Brown and wife, Classie, and Douglas Brown, all of Sibley, Johnnie Brown Jr. and wife, Mary, of Natchez, Willie Brown of Cleveland, Ohio, Felix Brown of Baton Rouge and Charles L. Brown and wife, Sharon, of Grand Prairie, Texas; four sisters-in-law, Flora M. Ivory and Annie Mae Shepherd, both of Natchez, Dorothy Thomas of Saginaw, Mich., and Ella Brown of Cleveland; two aunts, Ida B. Johnson and husband, Elijah, of Natchez and Mildred Johnson of Pine Bluff, Ark.; one cousin, Agnes Guyton of New Orleans; three godchildren, Felix Brown, Jeremy J. Ealey and Quankeia C. Shepherd, all of Natchez; extended family, Bazile and Jeanie Lanneau of Natchez, Lucille Hume and Laura Bayon and their families, Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home staff; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, other relatives, neighbors and friends.
Pallbearers will be Arthur Brown, Ray Brown, Wilson Brown, Ren Brown, Randolph Brown, Lionel Brown Sr., Alton Brown and Jeremy J. Ealey.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Brown Jr., Robert Brown, Frederick Brown, Glendell Brown, Carl Brown Jr., Edward Deshun Ealey and Jacorby Smith.
