Amite County High School’s track team pretty much dominated the 2001 Natchez High Coca-Cola Relays Saturday at the Natchez High Track. Amite County’s varsity girls track team convincingly defeated Natchez’s varsity girls, 156 points to 129, overcoming outstanding performances by Natchez’s Lexi Washington, Kelly Hullett, Janice Davis and Roslyn Minor.

Amite County’s varsity boys held off Wilkinson County High School, 115 to 110. Natchez finished third with 102 points.

ACHS’s varsity boys eked out a one-point win over the Natchez-A team, 104 to 103, and the varsity girls team, which had 62 points, finished third to the Natchez-A team’s 110 points and Port Gibson’s 70 points.

&uot;They did a great job,&uot; said Amite County track coach Charlie Floyd. &uot;My young kids came through for me.&uot;

Despite Amite County’s dominance, Natchez High track coach Henry Woods was pleased with his team’s results.

&uot;It was a good meet,&uot; he said. &uot;We ran against some real good competition. We had some good times.&uot;

Lexi Washington won the long jump with a jump of 17’1&uot;, &uot;which is two feet under my personal best,&uot; she said. &uot;I feel like I can jump higher. I had a lot of support from my teammates during my jump, which made me feel good.&uot;

Washington was also part of the winning 4x200m relay team and the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams that finished second to Amite County.

Minor won the 100m low hurdles (15.72) and the 300m low hurdles (48.82).

Davis won the 100m dash (11.41) and the 400 meter run (54.47) and was on the 4x200m and 4x400m relay teams.

Hullett won the 1600m run in 5:59 minutes and the 800m run in 2:24 minutes.

Wilkinson County Middle School’s Latasha Williams won two events – the shot put (28’2&uot;) and the discus (61′).

&uot;It feels great,&uot; she said about being a double-winner. &uot;I just practice and my coach (Alfa Young) convinced me to do it and I did.&uot;

Natchez’s Clinton Johnson had a dominating performance in the 3200m run with a winning time of 10.15 minutes, defeating Wilkinson County’s Percy Harris by an astounding 47 seconds.

&uot;I just tried to establish a good pace and then I began pulling away,&uot; Johnson said. &uot;I was trying to go for the under-10 minute mark, but I didn’t have anyone to run with.&uot;

Wilkinson County’s Charlie Spillers was a triple-winner – the long jump (22’3 1/2&uot;), the high jump (6’6&uot;) and the triple jump (46’3 1/2&uot;).

&uot;Working hard paid off,&uot; he said. &uot;The high jump, I had competition. When I have competition it makes me work harder. All my help comes from the Lord.&uot;
