FERRIDAY, La. – Despite racking up an impressive 32-1 win over district rival Ferriday on the road on Monday, Vidalia head coach Johnny Lee Hoffpauir wasn’t exactly thrilled.

&uot;Our kids kept their focus about as much as they could under the circumstances,&uot; Hoffpauir said. &uot;We really accomplished very little, other than we got to swing the sticks against live pitching.&uot;

The Vikings made the swings count as they pounded out 16 hits in just three innings. Included among the 16 hits were four home runs and four doubles.

Hoffpauir’s offense got off to a slow start in the top of the first when the first two Viking batters were retired, but Vidalia would send 19 more batters to the plate before Ferriday could record the third out to get out of the inning.

Along the way the Vikings scored 16 runs, with the big hits coming on a three-run homer by Bubba Wyles and a grand slam later in the frame by Trey White.

The lead grew to 17-0 in the bottom of the second when Bryan Bennett reached on a Trojan error and scored later in the inning on a passed ball.

Ferriday bounced back in the bottom of the second for its only run of the contest, a solo homer by Robert Taylor to lead off the Trojan second.

The third inning was another Viking parade to the plate as Vidalia had 21 batters take cuts in the frame.

Jarrett Hoffpauir started the top of the third with a solo homer, and the Vikings would add 14 more runs before the inning was compete. Along the way Barry Bowden collected the Vikings’ fourth homer of the game, a three-run shot that pushed the lead to 31-1. Vidalia would add one more run in the inning to account for the final 32-1 score.

Jarrett Hoffpauir picked up the win with just two innings of work before giving way to junior Doug Warshaw in the third.

The win improves Vidalia’s record to 14-3 on the season, 3-0 in district play.

Up next for the Vikings is a Wednesday road date at Cathedral.

&uot;We really need to get a couple of games in this week,&uot; Hoffpauir said. &uot;We haven’t gotten much accomplished in our last two games.&uot;

On Saturday the Vikings beat an out-manned McCall team 22-10.
