The Natchez Democrat
Carletta Brown, a 5-4 point guard from Franklin County High
School became the first major Division I basketball signee in
school history on Wednesday when she signed a national letter
of intent to play for the Ole Miss Lady Rebels.
According to Franklin County head coach Albert Cain, Brown
averaged 25 points, 5.6 assists and 5.3 steals as a senior. She
also led her AAU team to consecutive state championships.
She was just as impressive off the court. She boasts the second
highest GPA (3.98) in her class at Franklin County, and has been
named Miss Franklin County High School, Most Likely to Succeed
and 2000 Homecoming Queen by her peers.
&uot;Carletta is a very talented point guard,&uot; Ole Miss
head coach Ron Aldy said. &uot;Not only is she an exceptional
athlete, but an outstanding person. Even more impressive than
her basketball talents is the fact she was named Salutatorian
of her class. She has a long list of honors both on and off the
court. Carletta is a special player who will be an asset to our
program.&uot;
