On Aug. 25, the Natchez Festival of Music is hosting a Back to School Barbecue, Reunion and Fundraiser to restore the cafeteria at the Margaret Martin Performing Arts Center — which formerly served as Natchez High School and Margaret Martin Junior High School.
The building is located at 64 Homochitto St., and has suffered many years of emptiness and neglect.
Everyone who has attended school there, taught there, worked there, been involved with the music festival, or just cares is invited and welcome.
If you can identify or be a contact person for each class that was there, please let us know.
You may want to visit these websites: www.natchez-rebels.org and www.natchezfestivalofmusic.com.
Tours of the building will begin at 6:30, with the reunion taking place in the cafeteria from 7 to 10 p.m.
Reservations are needed, as Allen Brown and his cooking team need an idea as to how many people they will need to feed. Cost is $25 per person.
There will be a cash bar, music, friends, a sock hop and lots of fun!
Contact Tony Byrne at 601-445-7175 or me at 601-446-8280 for reservations, general information, offers to help and information about special rates offered by hotels and B&Bs.
Contact Mary Lessley at 601-442-4272 to order special $12 Natchez High School reunion T-shirts.
Tickets are available by calling Mary Robertson at 601-445-2210 or going through the festival’s website: www.natchezfestivalofmusic.com. Come and enjoy! Bring your friends, family and classmates for this special reunion!
Rena Jean Schmieg is a coordinator of the Margaret Martin reunion.
