A couple who bought a house on State Street in Natchez and later filed a lawsuit saying they were unaware of its structural damage settled a lawsuit Wednesday in Adams County Chancery Court.

After two days of testimony and a morning discussion among the lawyers, Richard C. Pumphrey and Diann Pumphrey of Metairie, La., concluded their trial against Coldwell Banker/Brown-Davis Realtors Inc; Jackie Smith; Diane Brown; A. Vidal Davis; Countrywide Home Loans Inc.; David Nations; Robert Gavin; and former house owners Greg Couture and Jeannie Couture.

&uot;I hope this is a mutually beneficial resolution to a difficult problem,&uot; said Hollis McGehee, the chancellor appointed to oversee the trial.

The Pumphreys purchased the house at 905 State St. as a second home in October 1997. They later filed suit stating that they had been told the &uot;house was structurally sound and free of latent defects&uot; as required in disclosure statements.

But later the house began to develop cracks in the doorways and foundation and to sink and settle into the ground, according to the lawsuit.

Realtor Diane Brown said she did not know the details of the resolution Wednesday afternoon &uot;but all the lawyers are happy.&uot;

The Pumphreys declined to give any details about the resolution Wednesday.
