More than 100 area players participated in the Mitch Ashmore Baseball Camp on Thursday and Friday at Huntington School.
&uot;I’m real proud of this camp,&uot; Ashmore said. &uot;I was not so interested in the number of kids we had out, but rather the quality of the instruction. We had guys who spend the majority of their time teaching and playing the game of baseball working at the camp. I’m honored they wanted to come and be a part of this.&uot;
Several of those instructors were current players at LSU, including former Hound Chad Vaught.
&uot;It really was an outstanding camp for this area,&uot; Vaught, a 1998 graduate of Huntington, said. &uot;It was great to be able to come here and see all those familar faces out on the baseball field.&uot;
Camp Director Chris Soileau, the head baseball coach at Walker High School said he was very impressed with the level of instruction at the camp.
&uot;When you can come to a camp like this for just a little bit of money, there really is no reason to spend several hundred dollars going somewhere else.&uot;
Ashmore said the continued success of the camp, which he started three years ago, should lead to many more in the future.
&uot;It is my intention to have the camp every year,&uot; he said.
