FOULES, La. — Services for Gus “Lil Gus” Watson Jr., 65, a lifelong resident of Foules, La., who went to be with our Lord and Savior Monday, July 16, 2012, at Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport, La., will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sunnyside Church in Foules, La., with the Rev. Jerry Sharp officiating.
Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Watson was born June 13, 1947, in Vicksburg, the son of Gus Watson Sr. and Irma Watson. He was a graduate of Sicily Island High School and a graduate of Louisiana State University with a degree in horticulture.
Gus was affectionately called Lil Gus and was passionate about football. He began the football program at Martin Junior High School in Sicily Island and served as head coach for a number of years. He also diligently followed LSU football and other LSU sports. He loved his players and students and was always glad to see them and hear how they were doing.
Mr. Watson was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church in Foules and the LSU Alumni Association.
Coach Watson will be missed by many and his memory will be cherished by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include two aunts, Mildred Marion and Doris Knight, both of Baton Rouge; a number of close cousins, friends and former students; one special cousin and caretaker, Ann S. Wycoff, and her family, husband, Reginald, daughter, Gerre Guarisco, and sons, Reggie and Randy Wycoff.
Pallbearers will be Reggie Wycoff, Walter Myers, Barry Sharp, Charlie Richard, Kevin Skipper and Walter Marcum Krause.
Honorary pallbearers will be Reginald Wycoff Sr., Albert Krause, John Keith Guice, Jerry Watson, Matt Myers and Blair Wilson.
