Redd Pest broke open a close game with an eight-run sixth inning en route to a 17-9 win over Sports Center Sunday at Carroll Jones Field to win the Natchez Dixie Youth 11-12 Ace Adams League championship.

The win advanced Redd Pest, 7-4, to the 11-12 City Championship game against Wallace League champion B&K Bank at 7 p.m. Tuesday, also at Carroll Jones Field.

&uot;It was a great game today,&uot; Redd Pest coach Fred Middleton said. &uot;We’ve been up and down all season. The fact that they were able to put together two wins showed a lot about their character.&uot;

Kyle Dunaway, pitching in his first game since the early part of the regular season, had a solid performance on the mound as well as at the plate.

He gave up six runs on seven hits and two walks and went 4-for-5 with a double and seven RBIs.

Dunaway hit a two-run single in the top of the first inning, only to give up Eric Perry’s three-run home run to right field in the bottom of the first to give Sports Center a 3-2 lead.

Redd&160;Pest tied the score at three when Jarret Logan tripled and scored on a Seth Swilley groundout and took a 7-3 lead on Dunaway’s two-run single, Patrick McDonough’s steal of home plate and Langdon Morrison’s RBI single.

Sports Center (5-5) closed the gap to 7-6 in the bottom of the third on RBI groundouts by Chase Herring and Johnathan Seale and an RBI single by Kendall Logan.

&uot;This was Kyle’s first game to pitch since the regular season,&uot; Middleton said. &uot;There was a lot of pressure on him.&uot;

&uot;It was tough,&uot; said Dunaway about his pitching performance. &uot;They hit me every time. We had the defense to back me up.&uot;

Redd Pest scored twice in the top of the fourth on RBI&160;singles by Dunaway and Taylor Hinson.

Joseph McDonough came on in relief for Dunaway and allowed three runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out two in picking up the save.

Leading by only one run, 9-8, going into the sixth inning, Redd Pest put the game away with its eight runs on six hits and five walks, as Dunaway and Logan each had RBI doubles and Wells Middleton and Joseph McDonough added RBI singles.

&uot;I think I was on today,&uot; said Dunaway about his big game at the plate. &uot;They were throwing some good pitches at me and I was taking them.&uot;

&uot;We all played as a team today,&uot; he added.
