BROOKHAVEN — It was a tough late Monday afternoon for the Natchez Dixie Youth 11-year-old All-Stars as they were shut out by McComb 10-0 in four innings at the District 6 Tournament.
“We only had two hits. We just ran out of pitching,” Natchez 11s head coach David Lindsey said. “(Their pitcher) threw hard. We had a few strikeouts. We hit it, but we hit it right to them.”
Natchez didn’t have a single extra-base hit in the ball game. McComb, on the other hand, kept putting the pressure on Natchez’s pitching and defense.
The loss to McComb meant the end of the season for the Natchez 11-year-old All-Stars. Cedric Dunbar was the losing pitcher.
“They played good. A lot of people didn’t expect them to go this far,” Lindsey said. “They kind of surprised me, too.”
Shreveport 10, Vidalia Americans 0
VIDALIA — The Vidalia Americans 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars could not get going offensively and the Shreveport All-Stars made them pay in a 10-0 win in four innings Monday night at the state tournament.
“We had some good plays in the field. Our pitcher, Caitlin Gamberi, did a great job on the mound. She showed a lot of composure out there. We couldn’t get anything started,” Vidalia Americans head coach Jay Gamberi said.
The one time the Vidalia Americans had an opportunity to score was when they had the bases loaded with two outs. Unfortunately, they were unable to get the job done.
With the loss, the Vidalia Americans fell to the losers’ bracket and will take on the Vidalia Nationals today at 6 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to the championship game against Shreveport on Wednesday.
Vidalia 7-8 All-Stars 11, Winnfield 10
JONESBORO, La. — McKenzie King singled in Casey LaRue with the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Vidalia 7-8-year-old softball All-Stars rallied to defeat Winnfield Monday afternoon at the state tournament.
“We played excellent defense. We were down 10-9 going into the last inning,” Vidalia 7-8s head coach Mike Bowlin said. “They stayed in there and played their hearts out.”
Lexi Maynard hit an inside-the-park home run for Vidalia earlier in the game.
The Vidalia 7-8 All-Stars will take on Evangeline today at 6 p.m. in the championship round. Vidalia must beat Evangeline twice to win state.
