Things started to come to together last Saturday for the Rebel League All Stars. After being shut down in the first game and most of the second game of a three-game series against the Confederate League All Stars, the Rebel League’s bats came alive in the last inning of the second game. Trailing 10-5, the Rebel League rallied for four runs, but it fell one run shy in losing the second game, 10-9.
The Rebel League continued its strong hitting in Friday night’s rematch with the Confederate League in the 9- and 10-year old sub-district tournament at Ballew-Bowlin Field.
The Rebel League jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first three innings en route to a thrilling 8-7 victory.
The Rebel League punched out only six hits, but it put numerous balls in play, allowing runners to move up. Jess Dossett led the attack, going 2-2, with three runs scored.
Dossett also shut down the Confederate League from the mound. After the Confederate League clipped the Rebel League’s lead to 7-4 in the bottom of the fourth, Dossett relieved Daniel Jenkins. Dossett walked the first batter he faced, but then struck out the next three batters on nine straight pitches. In fact, Dossett, stuck out the first two batters of the fifth inning on six consecutive tosses, giving him five straight strikeouts on the minimum of 15 pitches.
Rebel League starting pitcher Melvin Davis also was effective. He yielded only three hits in three plus innings while striking out four. He was charged with three earned runs.
