VIDALIA, La. – A bid for sewer line replacement work came in $538,095 under an engineer’s estimates, according to Town of Vidalia figures.
The lowest bid opened by the Vidalia Town Council during its Tuesday night meeting was a $399,460 bid from Suncoast Infrastructure of Florence. The bids were taken under advisement, but the lowest is usually accepted, said Mayor Hyram Copeland.
The bids were well below original estimates, partly because materials needed to do the job have become less expensive, Copeland said.
A $932,000 Louisiana Community Development Block Grant will cover the project’s cost, with the remainer left to help pay costs of future public works projects, Copeland said. A timetable has not yet been set for replacing the town’s sewer lines, many of which are more than 60 years old.
