ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Jefferson Parish Recreation Department topped the Ferriday Gators fast-pitch softball squad in two one-run games to win the Dixie Debs Louisiana Dixie Debs State Softball title Thursday night.

Jefferson Parish scored the winning runs in both games in the seventh innings.

Ferriday was undefeated in the tournament before losing both games. The Gators finished with a 23-5 record, with most of the girls not even falling in the 16- to 18-year-old category.

&uot;We only had three girls in the 16- to 18-year-old age group,&uot; coach Rutt Horn said. &uot;The rest were 15 and under.&uot;

Horn said although the Gators didn’t win the title, he’s still proud of the team.

&uot;All the kids will be back next year,&uot; he said. &uot;These are 15-year-olds getting the job done. Most of them have played in this league since they were 12.&uot;
