FAYETTE — In an effort to mobilize future leaders, Leadership Jefferson held its first graduation Saturday at Jefferson County Hospital.

Six people took the first class that began in January.

During Saturday’s graduation, they heard a speech on the values of leadership given by Chancery Court Judge Kennie Middleton, said Walter Huston, director of the Phoenix Project Community Development Foundation.

“He spoke on the values of leadership especially concerning the Jefferson County community.” Huston said. “He hit upon certain aspects of leadership.”

The class is intended to train people to become leaders and improve their community.

“It’s very interesting to see grassroots people who want to make a difference in Jefferson County” Huston said.

Huston said plans are already underway to begin a second Leadership Jefferson class in January and to also start a youth leadership class.

“We want to start a movement in Jefferson County to try to reclaim our community,” Huston said.
