The Mississippi All-Stars swallowed a bit of their own medicine on Monday night, getting 10-run ruled by North Carolina in a 10-0 loss.

But the boys from Natchez were up to their old tricks on Tuesday night. Mississippi defeated the Tennessee All-Stars 12-0 in five innings to move into the semifinals of the Dixie Boys World Series.

&uot;They (the team) got to see a little bit of what it felt like of what we were doing out there,&uot; said coach Tim Foster. &uot;And they didn’t like it.&uot;

Natchez will play the winner of the North Carolina-Florida game 8 p.m today. The game can be heard on WQNZ 95.1FM.

After getting through a dreadful first inning – which saw starting pitcher Timmy Foster allow two baserunners and throw two wild pitches but escape with no damage – Natchez pounced on Tennessee in the bottom of the first.

Cole Bradford singled to right field and later scored on an error. Chris Seeger, who reached on the error, crossed home when Benji Maher hit a sacrifice fly.

In the second inning, the squad notched three runs. David Alton New reached on an error and scored on a pass ball. After C.J. Wright singled and Corey Walker struck out but went to first base on the passed ball, Bradford knocked them in with a base hit to center field.

The game was delayed for one and a half hours due to rain. But that didn’t stop Natchez.

&uot;We were a little worried about it, with arms getting tight,&uot; Foster said. &uot;We really just took off where we left.&uot;

Natchez tallied five runs in the third on four hits, a couple of fielder choices and a few errors. New tacked on two more runs by slapping a two-RBI single to left field.

Foster and Clay Floyd shut down Tennessee with stellar pitching. Foster struck out six batters in three innings, and Floyd struck out one. Between the two, they gave up only four hits.

If Natchez wins its next game, they will advance to the championship round, possibly tied with three teams.
