NATCHEZ — An Adams County man was arrested Tuesday on allegations he took a young child to a drug deal.
Lucas Lorenzo Rogers, 28, address unconfirmed, was arrested on charges of sale of schedule I controlled substance — marijuana, sale of schedule III controlled substance — Lorcet, sale of schedule IV controlled substance — Xanax and child endangerment.
Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said Rogers was arrested at approximately 2:45 p.m. after Metro Narcotics purchased an ounce of marijuana, 10 Xanax bars and three Lorcets as part of an undercover deal that was conducted vehicle-to-vehicle on Hampton Court.
“Once the deal was consummated, we got behind him and did the (police) lights and pulled him over, and when the officer approached he had a small child sitting on the seat next to him,” Mayfield said. “(The child) didn’t even have a car seat.”
The child, who was approximately 2 years old, was taken into the custody of the Department of Human Services.
“(Rogers) would not give us any contact information for a family member to get the child,” Mayfield said.
In addition to the drugs Metro Narcotics reportedly purchased, Mayfield said Metro seized $460 hidden in the driver’s side kick panel of the vehicle Rogers was driving.
Rogers was detained without bond Tuesday.
Other charges will likely follow, Mayfield said, including a citation for no child restraint.
