FAYETTE — Services for Ed “Rooster” Haley Jr., 84, of Fayette, who died Friday, July 6, 2012, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Greenleaf Baptist Church in Fayette with the Rev. Percy Turner officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home in Fayette.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
Mr. Haley was born May 3, 1928, in Jefferson County, the son of Eddie Haley Sr. and Ruby Turner Barlow. He became a Christian at a very young age and began his work in Christ’s kingdom at Greenleaf Baptist Church where he served faithfully until his health failed.
Mr. Haley was especially loyal to the work of the Sunday school where he served as superintendent and as a teacher. He also served on the Deacon Board.
Mr. Haley was retired from Illinois Central Railroad.
Survivors include his wife, Hattie B. Oliver Haley; two sons, J.C. Haley and wife, Hattie, of Fayette and Arthur Neal Haley of Tinley Park, Ill.; three daughters, Alice Shannon and husband, Larry, of Fayette, Sandra Coley and husband, Sanders, and Tammy Trevillion, all of Harriston; and one special daughter, Paulette Haley of Fayette.
Pallbearers will be James S. Carter, Issac Colenberg, Bennie Jones, Reggie Scott, Joseph Sanders and Michael Wright.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sanders Coley, Brandon Haley, Kenya Haley, Eddie Mathew, the Rev. Larry Shannon, Shelby Trevillion, Shelboen Trevillion and Tavari Hughes.
