FERRIDAY, La. – A copy of the petition on recalling Glen McGlothin as Ferriday’s mayor was filed with the Secretary of State’s Office Aug. 8, office Spokesman Warren Ponder said Tuesday.
If at least one-third, or 718, of the town’s 2,152 registered voters sign the petition by Feb. 4, the petition can be submitted back to the Secretary of State’s Office. The petition would be forwarded to Gov. Mike Foster’s Office.
After the Attorney General’s Office reviewed the petition to make sure it met all legal requirements, the Governor’s Office would then set a date for an election on whether McGlothin would be recalled.
If a majority of those voting in that election voted to recall McGlothin, he would be recalled as mayor and the Secretary of State’s Office would set a date for an election to fill the post.
The Ferriday Town Council would have until 10 days after the recall election to appoint an interim mayor to serve until a new mayor could be elected. If the council did not appoint an interim mayor within that time, Foster would appoint someone.
That election would probably be held next spring at the earliest, although an exact date when it could be held is not yet known.
