Sunsets special treat for former Natchez resident

Sunday evening Michael Campbell walked out of the Cock of the Walk restaurant with his 2-year-old son David. The heat of the day was beginning to dissipate, and the sun was quickly dropping behind the clouds forming in the western sky.
Seeing the sunset, Michael decided to take his son by the hand and venture over to the edge of the bluff to catch a quick glimpse of the view overlooking the Mississippi River before leaving for his mother’s house.
Having grown up in Natchez, Michael was familiar with the spectacular sunsets that could be seen from the bluffs. Sunday afternoon’s sunset did not disappoint.
It has been six years since Michael left Natchez. Since then he has moved to Memphis, Tenn., married his wife Leigh, and taken on a position as a manager for Ameripride Services.
This past weekend he and his family gathered with his brother Bill and sister Michelle Luschen at his mother Gere Campbell’s home for a pre-Labor Day celebration.
Because Bill lives in Houston and Michelle lives in Nashville, Tenn., it is very rare for all three siblings to be together in Natchez at the same time.
&uot; This is the first time in a long time, almost four years,&uot; Michelle said from the restaurant parking lot.
When asked if any wanted to move back to Natchez, most everyone chimed in. &uot;Michael does,&uot; they said.
&uot;He has that dream,&uot; Bill said.
An avid outdoorsman, Michael returns as often as possible to take advantage of the area’s hunting and fishing. But most of all, he dreams of returning to the small town life of Natchez.
For now, he will settle for an occasional sunset overlooking the river with his son by his side.
