After Huntington’s 20-14 loss to Glenbrook last Friday, Hounds

coach Gerald Reeves said he thought his squad played well for

its opening week.

And then he and his coaching staff looked at the game film.

His attitude about Friday changed.

&uot;We spent two hours reviewing the game film. I pointed

out some of the things we didn’t do correctly,&uot; said Reeves,

whose Hounds take on Tensas in a road game this Friday. &uot;After

reviewing the film, I realized we didn’t have any effort at all.&uot;

He noted the Hounds made too many mental mistakes, botched

a couple of snaps in the kicking game, had a kick blocked and

failed to run the option well, which is a strongpoint of Huntington’s

offense.

The Hounds had some bright spots, however. Offensively, Reeves

said, &uot;We’ve got people in the right places.&uot; The offensive

line was impressive in the running game, and running back Patrick

Clayton had a solid effort as well.

The Hounds will need to get everything back on track for the

Tensas game. The Chiefs are a solid team and return 14 players

from last year’s squad that defeated Huntington 28-18.

The Hounds hung with Tensas for three quarters, but the Chiefs

pulled away in last year’s game.

Reeves said Tensas uses power sets to run the ball. But the

Chiefs will also open up with double slot formations and throw

the ball or run it with the option.

&uot;It’s hard to prepare for them because they do so many

things well,&uot; Reeves said. &uot;Talent-wise, I believe they’re

the best team on our schedule.&uot;

Last week the Chiefs topped Pine Hills 47-6.

Reeves is confident his team can turn things around this Friday.

&uot;I believe we’ll be able to give a much better effort

this week than last week,&uot; Reeves said.

But, as it was last week, the rain has wrecked practice schedules

for the Hounds. The team didn’t practice outside Tuesday. It hit

the turf Wednesday, but conditions were still soggy. Scattered

showers are expected throughout the week. Game time is at 7 p.m.
