NATCHEZ — It’s not too late to make a difference in the community around you by joining the “We CAN do it!” challenge.

Seven local teams have begun collecting cans, but other teams are encouraged to form a team today.

Any school, church, civic group or business can participate by collecting non-perishable food items.

Collections will continue until Jan. 26. On Jan. 27, 28 and 29 each team or designated team members should get together to build a structure from the canned goods collected.

The structure can be as simple or as complex as the team desires.

A representative of The Natchez Democrat will come to your location on one of the three structure-building days and take a photo of what you construct. Photos will be published in the Sunday, Jan. 31 edition of The Democrat.

Community members are invited to visit The Democrat offices Feb. 1-5 to cast a 50-cent vote for their favorite structures. Winning photos will be published in Profile 2010: Common Bonds, on Sunday, Feb. 28.

All cans raised will be distributed to the Natchez Food Pantry and Vidalia’s Feed the Hungry. All money raised from voting will go to the Stewpot.
