Team St. Andrews had its way with Team Carnoustie Sunday at

the 2001 Beau Pr\u00E9 Cup Matches at the Beau Pr\u00E9 Country

Club, winning by a score of 19 1/2 points to 8 1/2 points.

Because of Saturday’s inclement weather, the tournament was

cut back to 36 holes – nine holes each for the alternate shot

format and the four ball competition and 18 holes for the singles

matches.

However, despite the bad weather that hit the area between

last Thursday and last Saturday, the course was in excellent shape.

Team St. Andrews’ captain Howard Jones was proud of the team’s

play throughout the tournament.

&uot;I’m real proud of them. I can’t say enough good things

about them,&uot; Jones said.

Team St. Andrews took a 4 1/2 point to 2 1/2 point lead after

the alternate shot format, taking three matches 1-up while picking

up another 1 1/2 points as three matches went all-square.

Things only got better for Team St. Andrews as it picked up

five more points to only two points for Team Carnoustie in the

four ball competition to increase its lead to 9 1/2 to 4 1/2.

Needing just five points to win, Team St. Andrews won five

of the first six singles matches, including Lloyd Trisler’s cup-clinching

win over Dan Bland, 2 & 1.

&uot;I had a lot of good partners,&uot; Trisler said. &uot;I

hit the ball well today. I drove the ball well and hit my irons

well. But, I didn’t putt as well as I could have today.&uot;

Kurt Russ needed only 15 holes to defeat Jerry Pyron in their

singles match, 4 & 3.

&uot;I was pretty consistent,&uot; Russ said. &uot;I didn’t

make too many birdies, but I only had two bogeys. This is by far

the best tournament of the year.&uot;

Jones defeated Rob Smith 1-up, Hayden Kaiser defeated Charles

Moroney 3 & 2 in 16 holes, and C. C. Barnes got by Bill Byrne

2 & 1 in 17 holes.

&uot;It was pretty good,&uot; said Barnes about his play

in the tournament. &uot;I hit a lot of fairways and a lot of

greens. I didn’t putt the ball well, but I putted well enough.&uot;

Despite the lopsided loss, Team Carnoustie member P.Z. Brewer

said the tournament was &uot;just all in fun.&uot;

&uot;It makes the club come together,&uot; Brewer said. &uot;Of

course, I love to win.&uot;
