Bulldogs get season off to rousing start by throttling Northwest Rankin Cougars

The Natchez High Bulldogs, ranked No. 3 in a statewide media
preseason poll, started its season with a convincing 84-58 win
over the Northwest Rankin Cougars Monday night in the Warren Central
Tip-off Tournament in Vicksburg.
Je’Kel Foster led Natchez (1-0) with 31 points to go along
with 10 rebounds and four assists and Vasshun Newborne added 27
points, led all players in rebounds with 11, and also had four
assists.
Also scoring in double digits for the Bulldogs were Chris Logan
and Burton Broudy, each finishing with 11 points.
Natchez showed why it is one of the best teams in the state
by taking control of the game early, outscoring Northwest Rankin
(0-2) 22-12 in the first period and 20-7 in the second period.
The Bulldogs outscored Northwest Rankin 21-17 in the third
period to take a 63-36 lead.
Northwest Rankin outscored Natchez 22-21 in the fourth period,
but the outcome of the game had been decided long before the final
period had even started.
Jeremy Bibbs and Ken Jefferson led Northwest Rankin in scoring
with 10 points each. Marcus Melvin added seven points.
Natchez will next play the winner of the Warren Central-Madison
Central game at 8:30 p.m. tonght.
Results of the Lady Bulldogs game, which was played after the
