The Natchez Democrat
VIDALIA – During the Concordia Police Jury’s Monday meeting,
Juror Willie Dunbar and Secretary-Treasurer Russell Wagoner agreed
to research other parishes’ grass cutting ordinances.
Specifically, they will study what other parishes are charging
to cut grass when property owners will not maintain their own
property. At Monday’s meeting, Dunbar suggested raising the fee
for grass cutting from $75 to $200 per lot. As it now stands,
&uot;the people who get these letters (asking them to cut their
grass) still aren’t cutting their grass,&uot; Dunbar said.
But Dunbar said he will bring suggested changes to the parish’s
grass cutting ordinance back to the jury’s next meeting. A date
will then be set for a public hearing.
In addition, the jury voted to:
— Accept a bid of $1,008 from Carpet Sales and Service for
installation of blinds in the Tax Assessor’s Office.
— Reappoint Charlie Sutton and Charlene Barlow to the Concordia
Fire District No. 2 Board and reappoint Oscar Stewart to the Concordia
Parish Airport Board.
— Abandon the northernmost one-eighth of a mile of Maxwell
Road to the Tensas Parish line.
— Send a letter asking the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to
be responsible for inspecting and maintaining the structure under
the Red River Levee.
— Adopt a resolution asking the Department of Transportation
and Development to continue to conduct local inspections or to
increase funding to parishes by 20 percent.
— Pay $478 to the Catahoula Parish Police Jury for Concordia’s
share of the cost of a recent meeting of Region 8 members of the
Police Jury Association.
— Adopt a resolution expressing sympathy for the death of
Ravelle Hays, wife of longtime Police Jury Association Secretary
Jimmy Hays.
