NATCHEZ – Despite committing 38 fouls, having five players foul out, and making just 4 of 16 three-pointers, the Bogue Chitto Bobcats held on to defeat the Cathedral Green Wave 63-60 Tuesday night at the Cathedral gym in Division 7-1A action.

Domenick Addison led four Bobcat players in double figures with 14 points. Denard Ferguson and Michael Blackwell added 11 points each and Carlos Brown had 10 points.

Cathedral (3-3, 1-2) took 46 free throws in the game, but made just 24 of them.

Bart Lane led Cathedral with 22 points and 16 reboundsand Jonathan Jackson had 13 points and eight boards.

&uot;We had our chances. But when you miss free throws, you can’t win the game,&uot; said Green Wave head coach Ken Beesley, Jr.

Cathedral trailed 20-19 with over three minutes to go in the first half before going on a 10-2 run to take a 29-22 halftime lead.

Bogue Chitto (3-1, 3-0) turned things around in the third quarter, outscoring Cathedral 20-4 and then took a 45-35 lead with 7:28 to go.

Cathedral twice cut the lead to two points in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t make the free throws to give the Green Wave the lead.

Daniel Moak and Brian Wallace came off the bench and hit some clutch free throws to give Bogue Chitto a 63-57 lead with just two seconds left.

Lane’s three-pointer at the buzzer was too little, too late for Cathedral.

Bogue Chitto girls, 71, Cathedral 23

The Lady Bobcats used a full-court defense to help them score 31 points in the first quarter as they cruised to a 71-23 win over the Lady Green Wave.

Bogue Chitto’s Jessica Melton led all scorers with 21 points and had six steals and made three three-pointers as the Lady Bobcats improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the division.

Randi Moak added 18 points, five rebounds and a game-high seven steals, and Kia Porter chipped in with 13 points and three steals and also hit a trio of threes.

Cathedral (1-5, 0-3), playing without senior center/forward Kate Prescott, who injured her left hamstring in last Saturday’s contest against St. Aloysius in the finals of the Catholic Tournament, committed 11 turnovers in the first quarter alone and 26 for the game.

&uot;Their full-court pressure was intense,&uot; said Lady Green Wave head coach Craig Beesley. &uot;We had trouble getting the ball down the court.&uot;

Kelsey Stephens and Mary Margaret Alwood led Cathedral with nine points apiece.

After missing their first three-pointer of the game, the Lady Bobcats made five in a row in the first half.

Cathedral managed to score just six points in the first quarter and then trailed 37-6 early in the second quarter. The Lady Green Wave tried to come back and actually cut Bogue Chitto’s lead to 39-18 before Cassie Martin hit a three from midcourt just before the buzzer sounded to end the second frame.

Cathedral plays at Enterprise Lincoln for three games next Tuesday beginning at 5 p.m.
