FERRIDAY — A Ferriday man is behind bars after shooting another man in an apparent attempt to kill him.
Curtis O. Scott, 23, 100 Kyle Road, Apt. 2, was arrested Monday on a bench warrant for attempted second-degree murder.
The charges against Scott stem from a Christmas Day incident that happened in either the 400 or 500 block of Sixth St., Ferriday Assistant Chief of Police Jonnny Evans said.
According to reports at the Ferriday Police Department, the victim, Cortrell Milligan, 32, and his brother, Damion Milligan, 28, were driving in the area when they stopped to talk to some people they knew. While talking with others, Cortrell Milligan and Scott apparently had an unpleasant exchange of words, Evans said.
As the brothers were leaving the site, Scott allegedly pulled a gun and shot at the vehicle, one bullet shattering the passenger window and striking Cortrell Milligan.
The Ferriday Police responded to the shooting at 11:33 a.m. at Riverland Medical Center, where the victim was taken before he was transported to an Alexandria-area hospital, according to reports.
The victim and the suspect apparently know each other, and the shooting was probably an escalation of an incident that happened several days before, Evans said.
Scott is currently being detained without bond.
