JCHS drops pair of road heartbreakers

CRYSTAL SPRINGS – Jefferson County’s varsity basketball teams lost a pair of close games to Crystal Springs Friday night in Division 6-3A play.
In varsity girls action, Crystal Springs’s Lady Tigers held on for a 51-50 win over the Lady Tigers of Jefferson County.
Jefferson County (6-7, 3-2) led 13-10 after one quarter of play, but was held to just six points in the second quarter as Crystal Springs took a 22-19 halftime lead.
The hometeam Lady Tigers extended their lead to six after the third quarter was over, then held off a fourth-quarter rally by the visiting Lady Tigers to notch the win.
Ebony Jenkins led Crystal Springs with 28 points.
Last-second shots don’t fall for Jefferson boys
In varsity boys action, Crystal Springs also held on for a one-point win, 60-59.
Delvin Thompson led Jefferson County (6-7, 2-3) with 25 points. Juan Wyatt added 18 points.
Crystal Springs led Jefferson County 16-11 going into the second quarter.
The visiting Tigers chipped away at that five-point lead, but came up just short of pulling out a win.
The Tigers host Hazlehurst next Tuesday.
