Week filled with hellos, goodbyes

Published 12:03 am Monday, July 2, 2012

Last week was one of farewells, and a few hellos.

The community gathered to bid farewell and say thank you to former Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin, former Natchez Mayor Jake Middleton and former Natchez Alderman Bob Pollard.

Others who have worked with these men and with former Concordia Parish Sheriff Randy Maxwell also ended careers in the public eye. To all those who devoted time to leading our communities, we say thank you.

One goodbye certainly leads to several hellos, though, and we welcome Ferriday Mayor Gene Allen, parish Sheriff Kenneth Hedrick, Natchez Mayor Butch Brown and Alderwoman Sarah Smith, among others.

We hope the next four years are bright.

Last week brought a few other tidbits of good news as well. Let’s review a few other headlines.

– Natchez High School student Deontre Terrell is an excellent artist with a bright future. His talent combined with hard work and a good attitude will certainly take Terrell places.

– The Adams County Board of Supervisors appears to be clearing the way for a new industrial announcement. Details are scarce at this point, but a company named Genesis Energy is apparently planning to locate here. We hope good news is coming soon.

As we begin a new week — with new leaders — we know great things are coming.
