BOGUE CHITTO — Cathedral head coach Peter Arnold could not have been happy at all with the way the Green Wave played at either end of the court in the final eight minutes of their 58-51 loss to the Bogue Chitto Bobcats.

After rallying back from an early deficit to take the lead into halftime on the road in what was a pivotal game in Region 7-1A for Cathedral and managing to keep the lead as the third quarter came to an end, the Wave folded in the final eight minutes.

“This was a game that we lost. They didn’t win it,” Arnold said.

Bogue Chitto controlled the pace of the action in the first quarter en route to a 15-9 lead. Cathedral’s offense got going in the second quarter and the Green Wave outscored the Bobcats 18-11 for a 27-26 halftime lead. Both teams scored 13 points in the third quarter.

Poor shot selection, not looking for an open teammate and allowing Bogue Chitto to go to the free-throw line several times in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference as the Bobcats scored 19 points while the Green Wave had 11 points.

“In the fourth quarter, we were too impatient on offense and we turned the ball over. On defense, we were lazy,” Arnold said. “We fouled way too much. We were reaching and fouling.”

Carl Hammitte had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Colin Hammons had 14 points to lead Cathedral (6-7, 1-2). Javier Gee led Bogue Chitto with 16 points and Justin London scored 13 points.

Centreville 81, WCCA 60

CENTREVILLE — Colby Lockwood scored 22 points to lead four Centreville players in double figures as the Tigers remained undefeated in MAIS District 5-AA with a 21-point win over the WCCA Rams Tuesday night.

Jamie Dezendorf had 17 points, Brad Jelks added 16 points and Jason Todd Doughty chipped in with 13 points for Centreville, which improved to 10-5 overall and 4-0 in district play.

“We scored 20 (points) in the first three quarters. We ran the break all night for the first time,” Centreville head coach Jason Horne said. “Shot the ball well and did well in every phase of the game.”

Actually, the Tigers had 21 points in both the first and second quarters and 25 points in the third quarter. The only thing they couldn’t do was slow down the Rams’ Tip McKenzie, who led all scorers with 29 points.

But the problem for WCCA was a lack of scorers. Only three other players managed to get in the scoring column. Ethan Carruth had 16 points and Darius Hunter scored 12 points for the Rams.

Natchez High 65, Warren Central 54

VICKSBURG — Jeremy McMorris finished with 22 points and Trevon Chatman had 15 points to lead the Natchez High Bulldogs to an 11-point win over the Warren Central Vikings Tuesday night.

Natchez High (11-8) played some aggressive defense in the first quarter, which helped the Bulldogs take a 17-8 lead at the end of the quarter. The next three quarters were tough for Warren Central, which never could get the big rally going to get back in the game.

B.J. Williams led the Vikings with 17 points while Eric Hall scored 15 points and Corey Davis had 12 points.

Vidalia 73, Buckeye 32

BUCKEYE, La. — The Vidalia Vikings jumped out to a big lead and never looked back as they cruised to a 41-point win over the Buckeye Panthers Tuesday night to stay undefeated in District 3-3A.

Vidalia had its way with Buckeye from the opening tip and there was little the Panthers could do about it. By the time the first quarter was over, the Vikings enjoyed a 26-5 lead. At halftime, they were ahead 40-18.

The Vikings didn’t let up in the third quarter as they outscored the Panthers 21-5 for a 61-23 lead. Ten players on Vidalia’s roster found their way into the scoring column as head coach Robert Sanders went to his bench with the game out of reach.

Torrey Dixon led Vidalia (16-4, 3-0) with 21 points while Quartrell Thomas finished with 15 points. Buckeye was led by Joey Rodden with 16 points and Caleb Fuselier with eight points.

Tallulah Academy 60, Tensas Academy 56

TALLULAH, La. — Jake Busby and Jes Shivers each had 16 points as the Tallulah Academy Trojans rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat the Tensas Academy Chiefs in an MAIS District 6-A game.

After jumping out to a 20-14 lead at the end of the first quarter, Tallulah Academy was outscored by Tensas Academy 20-9 in the second quarter to trail the Chiefs 34-29 at halftime.

Even though the Trojans cut into the lead during the third quarter, the Chiefs still maintained a three-point lead at the end of the quarter. But the Trojans outscored the Chiefs 18-11 in the final eight minutes to escape with the win.

Tensas Academy (3-8, 1-3) was led by Austin Emfinger, Jon Truman James and Farrel Keahey with 14 points apiece.
