NATCHEZ &045; The Police Jury and its consultant have drawn the lines &045; and now it is up to the U.S. Justice Department to approve them.

The Concordia Parish Police Jury, in a Monday night special meeting, voted to introduce at their Jan. 14 an ordinance setting redistricting lines for the parish based on 2000 Census results. Actually, there will be few changes, consultant Oliver Schultz said.

&uot;The biggest change is that District 5 loses Levens Addition, which goes into District 4,&uot; Schultz said Tuesday, referring to a subdivision near Ferriday.

Other changes include:

4Tumminello Road

north of U.S. 84 and the Black Bayou area from U.S. 84 to La. 15 moving from District 4 to District 1.

4Doty Road from Townsend to Black Bayou moving to District 5A.

4Precinct 4-6, which includes Shaw and Deer Park, moving from District 4 to 5-B.

4An area running from Horseshoe Lake to Wildsville moving from District 5-B to District 5-A.

4District 2’s boundary moving from Florida Street to Concordia Avenue and to Oak Street.

4The Old River area from Ridgecrest to north of Vidalia being added to District 3.

Once the ordinance is introduced for public comment, the Police Jury is expected to vote in its Jan. 28 meeting to send it to the Justice Department as the jury’s preferred plan.

That plan and the other options that were presented to the jury will be submitted to the Justice Department. After a 45-day public comment period, the department will let the jury know whether it has any objections to the jury’s preferred plan.
