NATCHEZ &045; If you’ve ever wanted to get your questions answered by state agencies’ top brass or shake hands with the governor, today is your chance.
Gov. Ronnie Musgrove is scheduled to visit Natchez today as part of his &uot;Capital for a Day&uot; program &045; and, judging from his itinerary, it is going to be a full day.
&uot; This is an effort by Gov. Musgrove to bring state government out of Jackson and take it throughout the state,&uot; said Musgrove spokesman John Sewell.
Officials of the departments of Public Safety, Wildlife, Environmental Quality, Human Services, Finance and Administration, Banking and Corrections will be at the Natchez Convention Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today to answer questions and concerns from the public.
Officials of the Mississippi Development Authority, the Division of Medicaid, the Emergency Management Agency and the National Guard will also be on hand.
Musgrove’s day will start with a prayer breakfast at Rose Hill Baptist Church, an event for which more than 100 area ministers have received invitations.
The governor will visit the Senior Citizen Multi-Purpose Center and the county’s Department of Human Services office before taking a downtown walking tour with Mayor F.L. &uot;Hank&uot; Smith and other local officials.
At noon, Musgrove will speak at a $10-per-ticket luncheon at the Ramada Hilltop, an event sponsored by the city and numerous local civic and business organizations.
His afternoon will include tours of the newly renovated Sunshine Shelter, the Sadie V. Thompson Head Start Center, J.M. Jones Lumber Co. and Mississippi River Corp.
The day will end with a public reception from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the convention center.
&uot; The important thing is to let people know that their state government is accessible and that they’re able to take their questions and concerns&uot; directly to agency leaders, Sewell said.
