NATCHEZ — Observant passersby can rest assured the taupe-colored trailer at the corner of St. Catherine Street and Brenham Avenue is not for residential use.
The Natchez Planning Commission approved Citizens Choice Federal Credit Union to establish a branch there last July, City Building Inspector Paul Dawes said.
The City of Natchez strictly prohibits residential trailers, but special exceptions are allowed for mobile-manufactured offices and commercial units, Dawes said.
Amigos Construction is overseeing the trailer’s installation. Crews were out Friday working at the site.
Amigos Construction owner Fidel Loy said work on the trailer began before Christmas, but was stalled when below-freezing temperatures entered the area last week.
Loy said construction is slated for completion next month. Remaining work includes landscaping, parking lot paving and brick layering around the structure.
Dawes said the brick layering will give the trailer the appearance of a permanent structure.
Mayor Jake Middleton said once construction is complete, passersby will not notice a trailer, but rather a place of business.
“We wanted to make sure everything was going to be done professionally,” Middleton said. “Once (construction) is done, it will be nice and improve the looks of that corner right there.”
