One man killed in car wreck

RIDGECREST, La. &045; One man was killed and four injured Friday night in a two-car crash on U.S. 84/65 near Ridgecrest, according to the Louisiana State Police.
Jermaine Carter, 20, of 10130 Noel Thomas Lane in Slaughter, La., was killed when the 1998 Nissan Altima in which he was riding hit another car that was driving north in the southbound lane, according to accident reports.
The driver of the 1992 Buick Regency that was traveling the wrong way, 51-year-old Andrew Waterman of Oklahoma City, Okla., was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson with serious injuries.
&uot;A preliminary investigation indicated the cause of the crash to be driver error and intoxication,&uot; the State Police report stated. There were no passengers in Waterman’s car at the time of the accident.
Those receiving moderate injuries in the crash included:
4The driver of the Altima, 18-year-old Kenwoski Jackson of Zachary, La., who was transported to Natchez Regional Medical Center.
4Willie Thomas, 19, of Clinton, La., who was transported to Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday.
4Jamarcus Spears, 19, of Kentwood, La., who was transported to Natchez Community Hospital. Spears was treated for his injuries and released.
The conditions of the other men were not available as of Saturday afternoon. Jackson and Spears were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident; Carter, Waterman and Thomas were not.
