CENTRAL, La. &045; Chalk it up to just being young, ACCS head coach Gill Morris said.

The ACCS Rebels were in a position to split a doubleheader with Central Private Thursday to open District 2-AAA play, but instead the Central Private Rebels rallied to take a 7-3 win in the nightcap.

Central Private won the first game, 4-0.

ACCS led 3-1 heading into the sixth inning behind a solid outing on the mound from right-hander Douglas Davis. But mistakes later in the game &045; they had two baserunners picked off in one inning &045; came back to haunt the Rebels.

&uot;I thought our youth caught up with us,&uot; Morris said. &uot;The bats just went silent. We made a few key baserunning errors. Just youth, I guess. We really didn’t swing the bats well in either game.&uot;

Central Private rallied for six runs in the sixth inning after ACCS jumped out to a 2-0 lead and later posted the 3-1 margin. Davis was pulled after he reached his pitch limit, and Central Private tagged the relievers for runs to take the lead.

&uot;Davis pitched just a superb game,&uot; Morris said. &uot;They didn’t have a hit until about the fifth or sixth inning. He got up in his pitch count and got a little winded. We had a couple of relievers come in and couldn’t find the strike zone. They got a couple key hits, and before you know it we were down. We’ll just have to keep our heads up and go from here.&uot;

Central Private rode the arm of hard-throwing Bernard Robert in the first game to take the shutout win. AC couldn’t muster offense against him to support starting pitcher Glenn Williams, who took the loss.

&uot;Robert in the first game was about as overpowering as a pitcher could be,&uot; Morris said. &uot;He was really bringing it, mixed his hard curveballs and had our number.&uot;

The two teams will play a single game at 1 p.m. Saturday at the ACCS diamond.

Trinity-Pine Hills postponed

GLOSTER &045; Wet grounds forced the postponement of Trinity Episcopal’s district contest with Pine Hills Thursday.

No make up date has been set, but the Saints will make up their earlier game with Amite School Center at 5 p.m. Saturday in Liberty.
