VIDALIA, La. &045; Want to know the best way to make it rain?
Have Vidalia High School schedule a baseball tournament.
The opening round of the tournament got rained out Thursday, but that’s nothing new for head coach Johnny Lee Hoffpauir. That’s been a common occurrence in recent years, and this year’s version is no different.
Thursday’s games are pushed back with an abbreviated schedule Saturday.
&uot;That’s the plan, but I’m going with if we get some dry weather,&uot; Hoffpauir said. &uot;If we can’t start (today), we’ll do single elimination Saturday. If we get rain (today), we’re done. We’re playing it by ear. This is kind of a tradition for our tournament. It’s nothing new.&uot;
The plan today is the two games initially scheduled for Thursday &045; Jena vs. Block at 4 p.m. and Cathedral vs. Caldwell at 6:15 p.m. Games initially scheduled for today will be pushed until Saturday morning.
Crowville will meet Winnsboro at 9 a.m., and Vidalia will meet Avoyelles at 10:30 a.m. with all games that day on a 75-minute time limit.
Initial forecasts call for some rain this morning, but a steady dose of it may force Vidalia officials to postpone the entire tournament.
&uot;We’ve been on the field all day,&uot; Hoffpauir said. &uot;We had two to three inches of rain (Thursday). We have to get some dry weather. If we can dodge (the morning), I think we’ll be OK. I’ve got to get there in the morning to see what kind of shape the field is in.&uot;
ACCS at Parklane tournament
MCCOMB &045; The Rebels had their two games washed out Thursday at the Parklane tournament, and the new format calls for them to get just one in today and come on back home.
The Rebels had games scheduled Thursday against Centreville and Silliman, but the Centreville game was scratched before they got to McComb and the rains came while warming up for the Silliman game, AC head coach Gill Morris said.
The Rebels will face Amite School Center at 2:30 p.m. today.
