LARTO &045; Four men and one woman remained in jail Monday on $1 million bond, while more charges were pending from a March 8 incident that left one man dead and another injured.
Daniel Wiley, 19, was stabbed to death on Larto Lake, authorities said.
Jaime Bailey, 19, Dustin K. Runyon, 23, and Joel R. McDonald, 24, all Effie, William Meredith, 26, of Center Point, and Keith Warren, 24, of Deville were all booked on first degree murder charges on a warrant issued by the Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Wiley’s body was reportedly found near Larto Lake Dam with knife wounds at about 10 p.m. March 8.
Wiley’s stepbrother, Willis Doulworth, also sustained knife wounds and is recovering at St. Frances Cabrini Hospital.
According to Catahoula Parish Chief Deputy Ricky White, the suspects and victims were not acquainted.
The suspects were fishing on the lake the night of the incident and the victims saw the suspects from a distance and thought they might know them, White said.
The suspects and victims first got into a verbal altercation which then became physical, White said.
The suspects left Wiley at the scene to bleed to death, White said.
All five of the suspects turned themselves in to the Avoyelles Sheriff’s Office on the Monday following the incident. The Catahoula Sheriff’s Office interviewed the suspects and then brought them to Catahoula Parish.
White said the case is still being actively investigated and other charges are pending. Attempted murder charges are pending because of Doulworth’s stabbing.
White said the coroner is still investigating Wiley’s death.
