FERRIDAY, La. &045; The dentists in Ferriday may be gaining some business after the Cookie Cone Corp. comes to town and fills sweet tooth cravings with its ice cream cones.

Will Selbak, president of Cookie Cone Corporation, will be moving his business from Superior, Wis., to the Kelly’s Kids building on Louisiana 15 in Ferriday.

&uot;The building suited him,&uot; Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin said.

The corporation will employ 15 to 20 people initially &045; and 40 to 50 employees after it expands into the premium ice cream and premium novelty business the following year, McGlothin said.

The Kelly’s Kids building is being worked on to get it up to Health Department standards, and Selbak should be able to move in at the end of April, McGlothin said.

Selbak, who could not be reached for comment Tuesday, recently signed an agreement with the Town of Ferriday for a lease on the building, financial assistance and plant set-up.

First, Kelsey Short of the Louisiana Department of Economic Development sent out proposals to 25 cities to find a site for the building.

Concordia Economic and Industrial Development District Executive Director Teresa Dennis received a proposal and contacted McGlothin.

Dennis then sent Selbak an offer for using the Kelly’s Kids building.

In a letter from Selbak to McGlothin, Selbak states that &uot;our oven and equipment is capable of producing 20 million cones per year.&uot;

McGlothin said that in addition to making ice cream cones, Selbak will also begin making ice cream next year.
