Hillcrest Christian’s bats were quick, solid and accurate as the Cougars took a doubleheader sweep of Adams County Christian School, 6-2, 5-2, Thursday in Jackson.

The Rebels threw their top two starters, Glenn Williams and Douglas Davis, but couldn’t keep the Cougars down enough to take the lead.

&uot;They’re the real deal,&uot; ACCS head coach Gill Morris said. &uot;They’re the most disciplined team I’ve seen in years as far as hitting. You just almost have to make a perfect pitch. They’re so disciplined with two strikes. They’ll bunt with two strikes and two outs. They’re the best two-strike hitting club I’ve ever seen.&uot;

The Cougars took the lead early in Game 2 off Davis and took a 5-0 lead before the Rebels (7-6, 2-6) got their two runs late off starter Brett Jones, an Ole Miss signee.

The Cougars got a run in the first before tacking on another in the fifth. Logan Power launched a solo homer in the sixth &045; his second on the day &045; for a 3-0 lead.

AC got a run in the sixth when Caleb Walker walked and scored on a Glenn Williams single to cut the lead to 3-1. But Hillcrest answered with two in the bottom half for a 5-1 lead.

The Rebels got another in the seventh when Williams walked with the bases loaded.

&uot;With all that has happened to us this week, we played hard and had a chance,&uot; Morris said. &uot;They definitely deserve to be No. 1, but I’m proud of our kids. To go up there and play them close, it’s a credit to the kids. They’re just so aggressive one through nine. They have a lot of depth. I guess that’s why they’re 15-0 and undefeated.&uot;

The Rebels took a 2-0 lead in the first game when Timmy Foster singled in Dustin Case and Walker off Hillcrest starter Marc Basye. The Cougars then got a run in the second off Williams before Power tagged a two-run homer in the third for a 3-2 lead.

Both teams will play at 4 p.m. today at ACCS in the third and final game of the series.

Monterey 14, Harrisonburg 2

HARRISONBURG, La. &045; This time the Wolves made it count.

Monterey stacked up 16 hits and shook off five errors to up their District 3-B record to 3-0 with the win over the Bulldogs.

&uot;They beat us two out of three at their tournament,&uot; Monterey head coach Hank Zizzi said. &uot;Going over there and beating them boosts our morale and everything. The bats are doing well. We had a couple miscues in the field, but you can live with them when you get good hitting.&uot;

The Wolves (9-4, 3-0) held a modest lead early before exploding late off Harrisonburg starter Elijah Booth. A.J. Smith doubled in Ben Brailler and Phillip Bryan to highlight a three-run fourth, and Seth Paul doubled in two runs in the sixth.

The biggest fireworks came early when Smith and Bryan each launched solo homers in the first two innings.

&uot;We’re being patient at the plate and waiting for the good pitch to hit,&uot; Zizzi said. &uot;We’re not going after bad pitches.&uot;

Bryan went the distance on the mound and struck out 12 while walking four. Only one of the runs was earned, and the Bulldogs had just four hits.

&uot;He pitched his way out of a jam,&uot; Zizzi said. &uot;It was working good. He was around the plate and real close.&uot;
