NATCHEZ &045; Even after Thursday’s doubleheader sweep, Hillcrest Christian saved its best for last.

Adams County Christian School held the undefeated and top-ranked Cougars to 11 total runs in a doubleheader, but they made up for it Friday with a 15-1 bashing of the Rebels in five innings for the three-game sweep in District 3-AAA.

At least it wasn’t a big surprise. The Cougars are just that solid up and down the lineup.

&uot;What can you say?&uot; AC head coach Gill Morris said. &uot;The kids came off the field after (Hillcrest) got hit after hit in the fifth inning, and I told them, ‘That was impressive, wasn’t it.’ But we’ll be OK. We played them close yesterday, and they came down here and opened up a can on us. That’s all you can say.&uot;

The Cougars battered ACCS pitchers Tim Foster and Matt Parson, and the youth the Rebels have this season couldn’t match up with the Cougars’ depth.

Hillcrest scored in every inning and put three balls out of the park without one of their top sluggers, Logan Power &045; who homered twice in Thursday’s doubleheader &045; while scoring more runs in one game than the doubleheader the previous day.

&uot;We swung the bats well today,&uot; Hillcrest head coach Paul Wyczawski said. &uot;There’s no question about it. I thought our hitters were aggressive at the plate and hit the ball hard. To be honest with you, I thought both (Douglas) Davis and (Glenn) Williams did a good job of pitching (Thursday). We didn’t get a lot of hits. They’re as good a couple of juniors as there are around.&uot;

Foster struggled early a bit with his control, but he settled down and made pitches later on before being yanked after the fourth inning. Made little difference, however, as the Cougars rallied in every inning and finished the game with 11 hits.

In the fifth the Cougars got five runs on four hits off reliever Matt Parson, including a two-run single from Ryan Cobb and a run-socing single from Jim Harlow to score Cobb for the 15-1 lead.

&uot;They’ve been putting runs on the board,&uot; Morris said. &uot;They’re actually averaging more runs than they put up on us yesterday. They came at us today, and that’s all there is to it. If you made a mistake, they’re probably the best I’ve ever seen (at taking advantage).&uot;

The Cougars scored four in the first inning off Foster, who walked three and yielded a run-scoring double to Brett Jones, an Ole Miss signee. In the second a Jones sacrifice fly got nine-hole hitter Edward Buck home for a 5-0 lead.

In the third Marc Bayse crushed one over the left-center field fence for a two-run blast and a 7-0 Hillcrest lead.

The Cougars got two more homers off Foster in the fourth &045; a two-run blast by Jones to dead center and a solo shot from Jim Harlow.

&uot;I think Timmy was a little tight,&uot; Morris said of the freshman right-hander. &uot;He settled down, and we had some plays in the outfield behind him. He’s young. I told him to relax, and he was going to throw X number of pitches. We’ll just try to stay positive and get ready for Copiah. I don’t think we’ll be seeing teams like we’ve been seeing in the month of March.&uot;

The Rebels got their one run in the third off right-hander Joey Tackett but didn’t get a runner past second base after that. In the third David Alton New singled, went to second on a wild pitch, went to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch.

Dustin Case led off the fourth with a single, but he got punched out when Sam Thomas grounded into a double play.
