NATCHEZ &045; Both city and economic development officials said this week they are continuing to market the Roth Hill site to prospective developers.

Those efforts now include the development, by the City Engineer’s Office, of a new color brochure, Web site and computer disc detailing information about the site.

City Engineer David Gardner unveiled the materials at the Board of Aldermen’s Tuesday meeting. &uot;It’s something new we can give to prospects when they make inquiries,&uot; Gardner said.

City and economic development officials are marketing 5.3 acres of riverfront property at the foot of Roth Hill, plus the 1.7-acre convention center parking lot site and the old Natchez Pecan Factory building, to prospective developers.

The hope is that one day the entire riverfront &045; including a rebuilt Water Street running along the river between Silver Street and Roth Hill Road &045; will be taken up with park space and housing, and with businesses that would bring jobs and tax revenue into the city.

To date, city officials have had at least four serious inquiries about the site, Gardner said.

The Natchez-Adams County Economic Development Authority is both promoting the site to recreation and leisure developers and responding to inquiries as they come in, said EDA Executive Director Michael Ferdinand. &uot;We’ve had about half a dozen inquiries,&uot; Ferdinand said.

&uot;They’ve been everything from straight real estate development to commercial to some casino folks. Š Some want to look at all (of the site); others are wanting to look at segments.&uot;

However, Ferdinand noted that the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks have made it difficult for many recreation and leisure developers to find the financing they need.

Meanwhile, city officials will make a presentation about the site at the Mississippi Gaming Commission’s next meeting, which will be held May 21 at the Natchez Convention Center.

That’s being done in the hope that the site will catch the eye of casino developers, said City Attorney Walter Brown.

Having commission members visit Natchez not only gives them the opportunity to see that Roth Hill meets infrastructure and other casino development needs.

It also gives them the opportunity to tell prospective developer about the site, Brown has said.
