WATERPROOF, La. &045; Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy Mitchell Price Jr., 35, was killed in a one-car accident on Louisiana 128 in Waterproof at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, officials said.

Price ran off the road into a ditch embankment and was pronounced dead on the scene, said Louisiana State Police, Troop F, who responded to the call.

No other individuals were involved in the accident, according to state police.

Price was driving a 2001 Ford pickup truck and was not wearing a seatbelt. The results of an alcohol test are still pending, according to state police.

A wreath decorated with a black ribbon adorned the door of the sheriff’s office and flags in front of the new parish courthouse were at half mast Saturday in memory of Price.

Although he had worked in patrol for about one year prior to his death, Price had worked for the sheriff’s office for about 10 years, most of them with the Concordia Parish Narcotics Task Force.

&uot;No telling how much narcotics he got off the streets &045; not only in Concordia Parish, but working across the street and with Natchez and Adams County,&uot; Sheriff Randy Maxwell said Saturday.

Maxwell said Price was well-liked by his peers and was known for being a dedicated law enforcement officer.

&uot;He did a great job for this department and for the citizens of this area,&uot; Maxwell said. &uot;What happened is an absolute tragedy, and he will be greatly missed.&uot;
