BROOKHAVEN &045; Pitching and defense.

Again.

The Natchez Major League All-Stars got two strong efforts from Jordan Dossett and Aaron White on the mound Monday to take an 8-0 win over the Brookhaven Americans in the opening round of the District 6 tournament at Brookhaven. All that came, of course, with a little help from the defense.

The Majors advance to the 8 p.m. game today against Summit, a 5-1 winner over the Brookhaven Nationals. The winner gets a berth in the championship Thursday.

&uot;Jordan’s arm started hurting in the second and third innings,&uot; Natchez head coach Alan Dossett said. &uot;Both of them threw well. Jordan didn’t have a lot of pop on his fastball, but he threw a good curve. But I could tell his arm was hurting him when I was warming him up. We played great defense. They hit a couple of shots in the outfield, and we caught all of them.&uot;

Jordan Dossett tossed three innings and allowed one hit, while White finished up and allowed one hit to combine on the shutout.

Natchez answered at the plate at the start with a run in the first, three in the second, one in the fourth and three in the fifth to blow the game open. Alex Strahan, R.J. Fleming and Jordan Dossett each had key singles to fuel the rally.

Some Brookhaven errors also kept Natchez on the basepaths. The first run of the game was unearned thanks to an error at second base.

&uot;We ran the bases real well,&uot; Alan Dossett said. &uot;They committed a couple of errors. Their first baseman committed about three errors that cost them three or four runs.&uot;
