Karen Curtis charged with tax evasion. Case remanded to files.
Susan G. Jester pleaded guilty to DUI first offense.
Charles Cameron charged with domestic violence. Case remanded to files.
Robert F. Morace pleaded guilty to DUI.
Justin King charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance. Case bound over to a grand jury.
Willie Sproulls pleaded guilty to trespassing — less than larceny.
Kendrick Williams charged with three counts of sale of a controlled substance. Case bound over to a grand jury.
Bryan Calvin Marvel pleaded guilty to simple assault.
Charla Mophett charged with two counts of tax evasion. Case remanded to files.
Leon Barry Rhodes charged with child endangerment. Case bound over to a grand jury. Rhodes also charged with two or more precursors. Case bound over to a grand jury. Rhodes also charged with possession of a controlled substance — crystal methamphetamine. Case bound over to a grand jury. Rhodes also charged with manufacturing of crystal methamphetamine. Case bound over to a grand jury. Rhodes also charged with generating hazardous waste. Case bound over to a grand jury.
Greg Mophett charged with tax evasion. Case remanded to files.
Adams County Circuit Court Cases
Thursday, May 24:
Yolanda Demetrius Jones was charged with receiving stolen property. Case dismissed in Judge Forrest “Al” Johnson’s court.
Harold Jason Cowan, pleaded guilty to child fondling (touching a child for lustful purposes) in Judge Lillie Blackmon Sanders’ court. Sentenced to 12 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections and to run consecutively with any sentence ordered to serve in the state of Louisiana. Credit given for time already served.
Wednesday, May 23:
Lakeria Marvel pleaded guilty to felony shoplifting in Johnson’s court. Pursuant to the plea agreement of the state and the defendant, the court withheld acceptance of the plea and sentence thereon pending successful completion of the following conditions: (1) The defendant’s good behavior for one year; (2) Payment of all court costs and fees incurred by Adams County. The defendant shall be barred from the Natchez Mall for a period of one year.
Clinton Dixon pleaded guilty to felony DUI (third offense) in Johnson’s court. Sentenced to three years in the MDOC suspended and placed on house arrest for one year, after which the remaining balance of the sentence to be served on post-release supervision through the MDOC. Must pay a fine of $2,000 and all court costs and fees.
Friday, May 18:
Bobby Earl Ford Jr. was charged with sexual battery. Case entered nolle prosequi in Judge Sanders’ court for the reason that additional witnesses heretofore unknown have come forward and have made it impossible to proceed with any expectation of a conviction at this time.
Monday, May 7:
Otis Anderson pleaded guilty to DUI third offense and simple assault on a law enforcement officer (Counts 1 and 2) in Sanders’ court. Sentenced to one year in the MDOC suspended and placed in the Intensive Supervision Program/House Arrest Program on Count 1 of the indictment. Must pay all court costs, prosecution fee of $200.00 and a fine of $2,000 within 30 days from this day. Also sentenced to one year in Intensive Supervision/House Arrest Program on Count 2 of the indictment. Further ordered that the one year in Count 2 run consecutively with sentence in Count 1. Also ordered that the defendant shall enroll into and attend a Narcotics Anonymous and/or Alcoholics Anonymous Program twice weekly. It is further ordered that Count 3 (felony fleeing) be dismissed.
Frank James Whittington pleaded guilty to burglary — cars in Sanders’ court. The court withholds acceptance of the defendant’s plea and entered an order of non-adjudication of guilt. Must pay all court costs and a $200.00 prosecution fee within 60 days from this date.
Javon K. Singleton, who pleaded guilty to carjacking and was sentenced to five years in the MDOC suspended and placed on five years probation and ordered to pay all court costs and restitution of $1,000 within six months, has violated terms and conditions of his probation: rule No. 3 — regularly report to his probation officer; rule No. 4 — not have in his possession nor use controlled substance of any kind; rule No. 10 — not violate any laws of the United States or any state thereof; rule No. 15 — pay to the MDOC such monthly reporting fees; and rule No. 18— pay all court costs and restitution within six months. Singleton has his probation revoked in Sanders’ court and is sentenced to the Mississippi Restitution Center until all court costs, outstanding probation fees and restitution of $1,000 are paid in full.
Frederick Frisby, who pleaded guilty to burglary of a storehouse and was sentenced to five years in the MDOC and after serving one year of said sentence and given credit for time already served was placed on four years Post Release Supervision and further ordered to pay all court costs, a prosecution fee of $200.00 within 90 days and enroll into and attend a Narcotics Anonymous and/or Alcoholics Anonymous Program twice weekly, has violated terms and conditions of his probation: rule No. 4 — not have in his possession nor use controlled substance of any kind; rule No. 10 — not violate any laws of the United States or any state thereof. Frisby has his probation revoked in Sanders’ court and is sentenced to the MDOC to serve the remaining balance of said sentence. Further ordered that the defendant shall enroll into and successfully complete the long term alcohol and drug treatment program. Also ordered that the defendant receive credit for any time already served.
Louis Tageant Jr. pleaded guilty to grand larceny in Sanders’ court. Sentenced to five years in the MDOC. After serving one day, the remaining balance is suspended and the defendant is place on formal supervised four years and 364 days Post Release Supervision through the MDOC. Must pay all court costs and a $200.00 prosecution fee within 30 days from this day. Further ordered that all courts costs and the prosecution fee shall be paid in the Office of the Adams County Circuit Clerk.
Wednesday, April 4:
Shomari Kente Jenkins pleaded guilty to the felony crime of embezzlement in Johnson’s court. Pursuant to the plea agreement with the state, the court withheld acceptance of the defendant’s guilty plea, pending successful completion of the following conditions: (1) Immediately pay court costs of $141.00; (2) Be on good behavior and violate no laws whatsoever (including DUI), other than minor traffic offenses, for a period of up to three years, unless shortened by the court; (3) Any other condition allowed by law and imposed by the court for good cause or in the court’s discretion, during said period of non-adjudication; (4) Pay restitution of $15,000.00.
Thursday, March 29:
Venicia Renee Firley pleaded guilty to child deprivation in Johnson’s court, retiring Count 1. Sentenced to five years in the MDOC. The court found that the defendant was low risk, nonviolent, and a proper subject for placement in an intensive supervision program. It is therefore ordered that the defendant be place on intensive supervision, or house arrest, with the MDOC for one full calendar year, unless terminated sooner, for good cause, by order of the court. Further ordered as a special condition that the defendant is not to attend any clubs or establishments that serve alcohol. Must pay all court costs and a prosecution fee of $200.00 in full within 30 days.
Wednesday, March 28:
Tylon Japree Martin pleaded guilty to burglary of a dwelling in Johnson’s court. Sentenced to 16 years in the MDOC, with the Court retaining jurisdiction for one year for placement of the defendant into the R.I.D. program with the MDOC. Defendant is to receive Intensive Drug treatment and obtain his GED while in the R.I.D. program. Must pay restitution of $519.00, all court costs and a prosecution fee of $200.00. Pursuant to the plea agreement, the pending burglary charged with be retired.
Monday, March 19:
Steven Robinson, who was indicted for uttering a forgery (Count III) on April 7, 2011, has his post-release supervision revoked in Johnson’s court after it found that the defendant was clearly in violation of the terms and conditions of his supervision after being recently found guilty of domestic violence in Hinds County. Defendant is ordered to serve the full remaining balance of his sentence in the MDOC.
Wednesday, March 14:
Melvin Guillot pleaded guilty to the lesser felony crime in count I of touching a child for lustful purposes in Johnson’s court. Sentenced to 11 years in the Mississippi Department of Correction. After receiving full credit for any time already served in the Adams County Jail, the remaining balance to be served on post-release supervision for 10 years, with the first five years to be formal post-release supervision through the MDOC, followed by five years of informal non-reporting post-release supervision. Must pay all court costs and a prosecution fee of $200.00, which are to be paid in full no later than 60 days from date. It is further ordered as a special condition of this sentence, post-release supervision, and as required by law that the defendant register as a sex offender. Pursuant to the plea agreement, the remaining count of the indictment is retired to the inactive files.
Friday, March 9:
Christopher Cockerham pleaded guilty to the felony crime of embezzlement in Johnson’s court. Sentenced to six years in the MDOC, with the Court retaining jurisdiction for one year for placement into the R.I.D. program with the MDOC. Must pay all court costs and a prosecution fee of $200.00. Restitution to be determined at a later date.
