Storm pushes back Minors’ tournament a day

FERRIDAY, La. &045; For those at home keeping score, it’s a dead heat: Mother Nature 2, Dixie Youth Baseball 2.
For the second of the four nights in the District 5 South Sub-District tournament rain came out the big winner as action from Tuesday’s games were postponed until today. The Ferriday-Catahoula game is suspended until 6 p.m. today with Catahoula holding a 12-3 lead in the top of the third.
The Vidalia-South Franklin contest for the winners’ bracket final will begin immediately after the completion of the Ferriday-Catahoula game.
The game originally scheduled for Wednesday will be played Thursday.
And for once Catahoula was able to take advantage of walks and errors after being on the unfortunate end of that Monday night in an 11-1 loss to Vidalia. Four Ferriday pitchers combined to walk seven and hit two in the first two innings as Catahoula scored four in the first and eight in the second.
Catahoula answered Ferriday’s two runs in the first inning to take the lead with four runs on one hit. Cody Herrington singled in Derek Herrington for the first run, and Cody Herrington scored on a wild pitch to tie it up. Tyler Myers and Richard Jefferson each scored on errors for the lead.
Ferriday got a run in the third when Zachery Burley’s bases-loaded walk scored Tyler Trant. Catahoula got all eight of its runs with no outs in the third off three Ferriday relievers.
Trey Vault, Aric Boothe and Chase Duncan each scored on wild pitches, and VaShawn Davis singled in John Lee for an 8-3 lead. Derek Herrington walked with the bases loaded to score Devin Curry, and Steven Winborne followed with a walk to score Ty Bell.
Davis scored on a fielder’s choice, and Tyler Myers singled in Derek Herrington for the 12-3 lead. Ferriday reliever Hunter Knapp then got the next two batters out to end the inning.
