NATCHEZ &045; The Northern District constable race was an easy victory, while the Southern District constable race left two candidates in a runoff Tuesday night after the Democratic primaries.
Incumbent Ray Brown won the northern constable race while Incumbent Jason Wisner and Randy Freeman will meet again for a runoff election Aug. 26.
During a post-results celebration with family and friends, Northern District constable winner Brown, who received 88 percent of the vote over George Washington, was almost speechless.
&uot;It just shows how the people in the community feel about me,&uot; Brown said.
Freeman said he was pleased with the turnout he received from voters for his first time to run for an office. &uot;It makes you feel good when that many people get behind you,&uot; Freeman said, who took almost 25 percent of the vote between five candidates.
Freeman said for the runoff he will revamp his strategy and see which way to go.
He will continue to emphasize his law enforcement experience, saying he is the only certified law enforcement officer in the race.
&uot;My experience is definitely a plus in my race,&uot; Freeman said.
Freeman said he spoke to one of the other candidates who already said he would support Freeman in the runoff. And Freeman said he is confident he will get votes from supporters of the other candidates.
Freeman will continue to emphasize that he is there to &uot;help&uot; the public and is &uot;accessible at all times.&uot;
Now he will campaign for three more weeks and &uot;get back and meet some people.&uot;
Wisner could not be reached for comment.
