NATCHEZ &045; Nathan Hogan, a suspect in the July 28 death of John Vasser, was captured by federal agents in New Orleans just before midnight Tuesday, Adams County Sheriff Tommy Ferrell said.

Hogan was arrested without incident and is being held in New Orleans pending extradition.

Ferrell has said he believes Vasser was murdered in connection with a robbery. If convicted of capital murder, Hogan could receive the death penalty.

On Monday, authorities in New Orleans arrested Thomas Andrew Briggs and Kim Magyar on charges of accessory to capital murder in connection with Vasser’s death.

During questioning, Briggs and Magyar listed several places in New Orleans Hogan lived at or frequented &045; and Hogan was tracked to one of them at about 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, Ferrell said.

During questioning early Wednesday morning in New Orleans by officials with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Hogan said he will sign papers necessary to extradite him to Mississippi.

&uot;This has been a tremendous cooperative investigation involving several states,&uot; Ferrell said. &uot;We just look forward to bringing him to justice.&uot;

Vasser was found dead at his residence on Morgantown Road, and unofficial autopsy results showed he died of gunshot wounds.

Vasser’s body was found the morning of July 29, half-submerged in a pond near his house on Morgantown Road. There were signs of a violent struggle, authorities said.

Even before Vasser was found, the sheriff’s office was notified of a problem when an agency in Escambia County, Fla., contacted Ferrell to report that a man matching Hogan’s description had attempted to use one of Vasser’s credit cards there.

Hogan, an acquaintance of Vasser’s, allegedly took Vasser’s car and credit cards the night of July 28 after Hogan was thrown out of the house.
